"Scroll of peace" is a calligraphic artwork symbolically representing the unity and commonality between the Semitic people of different faith. They are from the very own roots but people are spread to extreme corners not knowing each other or understanding that they are one. Selected verses from Samaritan Torah, Masoretic Torah, Septuagint is contrasted with Quranic verses which are of the same meaning.
Unity, Peace and Non-violence are the core values expressed through this Scroll, which makes it a real Scroll of Peace. Various script used in it is, Samaritan Hebrew, Masoretic Hebrew, Greek, Kufic Arabic, and artists freehand style version of Naskh script. All of it is put together in the handmade stained paper which is tailored with a woollen spun. Iranian and Japanese inks were used along with Indian bamboo, Persian reed, and all of these various elements constitutes to a strong message of unity. The philosophy of the artist on this particular work is that, lets this make a spark in you to learn more of commonality, unity, integrity to establish peace.
The project is based on the recent book: Can Art Aid in Resolving Conflicts?
The Serafio Gallery in Athens was the venue for the art exhibit “Art: Key to Conflict Resolution”, which is curating based on the book's theme. Selected artworks of 23 artists, most of them international and featured in the book.
Red Crown, Green Parrot is a public art project, at specific public sites, that recall memories of the Jewish heritage in Kochi, now barely remembered. Artists Thoufeek Zakriya and Meydad Eliyahu are concerned not only with contemporary art, which expresses this past, but also art in the written form-as calligraphy- in Hebrew, Malayalam and English. It ties together a strong past of a community whose skeletal bits remain. It aims to evoke in people the power of art and heritage, and how it continues to be unconsciously and inextricably woven into our lives, even in the current day.
Hebrew calligraphy exhibition was displayed as part of the International symposium "Shirei Hodu" Saga of Indian Jews, New Delhi, 2017. It was the first of its kind.
The Exhibition features the calligraphic replica of a few ancient Hebrew epigraphy, epitaphs and manuscripts which were a part of the rich history of Jews of Malabar.
Exhibition on the Jews of Malabar was opened at Sutra art gallery of The Ethnic Passage, a curio and souvenir shop in Mattancherry’s Jew Street, from December 1st to 10th of 2013.
An exhibition on Hebraica and Judaica from Jews of Malabar, curated by Thoufeek Zakriya was organized with the immense support of Thaha Ibrahim, who takes care of Sarah Cohen and Mr Rockey Neroth, owner of The Ethnic Passage. Inputs from Elias Josephai, a member of the Ernakulam Jewish community and the other members of the Jewish community of Mattancherry made this exhibition a grand success.
